Laura Sándor
Visual artist, teacher, art writer
My art starts from the depiction of ruins, as it allows me to express my fascination with human-made structures. Thus, I primarily represent buildings, cityscapes, landscapes, and occasionally interiors or still lifes. The human figure itself is the viewer and not part of the composition. Seemingly, abandonment is my theme, but in reality, I strive to evoke the act of deep contemplation and reflection. I avoid strong colors and shadows, and often, the spatial arrangement isn't clear. For me, timelessness is important, as is showcasing the romantic struggle between reason, symbolized by the artificial, and natural motifs. These locations radiate peace – making them suitable for quiet contemplation – and also allude to my immediate surroundings and certain cultural aspects of it.
