Description:
My pictures dissect the frustrating struggle of striving for artificial beauty ideals created by consumer culture. I mix the perfect details of beautiful models with each other, I change the eyes and mouths in the picture, by distorting their proportions I change the meaning of the picture. Aggressive alignment with beauty ideals is one of the diseases of our time. The series entitled “Africa” grew out of this idea. The history of Africa is the beginning, the origin of the world, the starting line, the cradle of humanity, which has now become a scene of exploitation, while preserving its diversity, traditions, tribal customs, and at the same time bearing the hallmarks of advanced Western society. The diversity and beauty of cultures appear, and therefore the ominous death throes of a continent left alone. My pictures record this moment, the ritual masks of tribal cultures mix with the faces of the present. This is the obsession I play with in my new pictures, where I mix the perfect parts of beautiful women and men, changing the proportions, presenting a distorted mirror image that is truly the grotesque and disillusioned reality itself. Human frailty, born of the dream of perfection, is a moth that rushes into the light to burn for a drop of miracle. This method sometimes creates images whose effect even I cannot control.
